Focus on Stem Cells
Focus on Stem Cells
Are Stem Cells the Most Underrated Part of Any Rehabilitation Programme?
For me, the answer is a definite yes.
When we experience injuries like broken bones, muscle tears, or cuts, it is our stem cells that drive the healing process, demonstrating the body’s natural ability to repair itself.

Over the years, working with horses and dogs recovering from injury, I have become increasingly interested in the role stem cells play in the body’s natural healing process. While we often focus on treatments, therapies, exercise programmes and nutrition, we sometimes overlook the fact that the body already possesses an extraordinary repair system of its own
That repair system is driven by stem cells
What Are Stem Cells?
Stem cells can become any cell in your body and are often described as the body’s natural repair cells . When tissues are damaged through injury, illness or everyday wear and tear, stem cells are released from the bone marrow and can travel to the affected area and support the body’s normal repair and renewal processes. Every day, stem cells are involved in maintaining and renewing tissues throughout the body. Whether we’re healing from a cut, recovering from a muscle strain or simply repairing the effects of ageing, stem cells play an important role. Most of us have noticed that children often heal remarkably quickly, while recovery can become slower as we get older. One reason for this being that the number of circulating stem cells naturally declines with age.
In humans, stem cells are found primarily within red bone marrow. As we age, some of this red marrow is gradually replaced by yellow (fatty) marrow, reducing the body’s readily available pool of stem cells.
Supporting the Body’s Natural Repair Processes
Any rehabilitation programme ultimately relies on the body’s own ability to repair damaged tissues. Stemregen has been developed to support the mobilisation of the body’s own stem cells into circulation, helping to support the body’s natural repair and renewal processes.
The science behind stem cells is fascinating and rapidly evolving, and while no supplement can replace appropriate veterinary or medical treatment, supporting the body’s own healing mechanisms may provide an additional tool within a comprehensive rehabilitation programme.
Any health issue that requires repair will depend firstly on the body’s ability to heal itself. Stem cells are the key players in this process, and Stemregen enhances this natural repair mechanism by increasing stem cell circulation. By using Stemregen, we tap into the body’s own ability to repair and maintain optimal health, supporting long-term wellness and faster recovery from injuries.
In humans, we have red and yellow (or fatty) bone marrow. The red marrow is where you will find the stem cells. Children’s bones contain only red marrow and as we grow older, the fat storing yellow marrow displaces the red marrow in the shaft of the long bones, so by 28 years old, most of the red marrow has been displaced and only remains mainly in the ribs, the vertebrae, the pelvic bones and the skull
The picture to the left shows the decline in red marrow in a human from birth to 28 years old and when I saw this, it made much more sense to me why Vets harvest horse’s stem cells from their pelvis
Stemregen was founded by Christian Drapeau, MSc, a renowned stem cell scientist with over 30 years dedicated to his groundbreaking research, which explored the role of stem cells in the body and revealed they are the body’s natural mechanism for healing and regeneration.
Inspired by his findings in the lab, Christian then travelled the world and researched extensively, sourcing nature’s most potent bioactive ingredients to formulate advanced supplements that activate the body’s innate repair processes. Each Stemregen product embodies its rigorous standards of purity, ethical sourcing, and scientific validation.
By tapping into your body’s regenerative potential, Stemregen empowers you to experience vibrant health, promoting tissue regeneration and enhanced longevity
Release supports the body’s repair process by enhancing stem cell activity, which plays a vital role in daily tissue renewal and healing. Stem cells naturally travel through the bloodstream to repair damaged areas, but their numbers decline with age, slowing recovery and weakening resilience. Release combines clinically studied plant extracts and bioactives that help increase the number of circulating stem cells and guide them to where they are needed. This targeted support strengthens the body’s natural renewal system and helps maintain long-term vitality and health.

What’s in Stemregen?
Stemregen Release contains a blend of naturally derived ingredients selected for their traditional uses and emerging scientific interest, including:
• Aphanizomenon flos-aquae (AFA)
• Aloe macroclada
• Fucus vesiculosus
• Panax notoginseng
• Beta-glucans
• Highly fractionated bovine colostrum
Release is made without artificial colours, preservatives, or fillers, offering a clean, plant-focused option to complement your healthy lifestyle. One ingredient of particular interest is AFA, a blue-green algae extract believed to encourage the release of stem cells from the bone marrow into circulation. These circulating stem cells are then able to travel throughout the body, responding to the body’s own chemical signals associated with tissue repair and renewal.
Why I recommend it
I first became interested in Stemregen because I was looking for ways to support healing and recovery in clinical cases alongside appropriate veterinary care and rehabilitation therapies. Since introducing it, I have personally observed some very encouraging results :
Many years ago now, a client was taking her dog to the vets several times a week for dressing changes to a cut on the foot that was taking months to heal, with little obvious progress. She brought her dog in for Low Level Laser Therapy and a months supply of StemRelease and the wound was completely healed within a month

Likewise, owners of horses with ligament injuries that have been dragging on, report seeing positive improvements in the outcome. As always, supplements should never be viewed as a substitute for veterinary diagnosis or treatment, but as part of a broader approach to supporting health and recovery. I have used it alongside many veterinary-led rehabilitation tendon cases with great effect
A Note for Competition Horses and Clean Sport Compliance
While Stemregen may have a role in supporting horses during rehabilitation, owners and trainers of competition horses should exercise appropriate caution.
Stemregen products are manufactured for human use and are not produced under equine BETA NOPS certification standards. Consequently, they cannot be guaranteed free from substances prohibited under racing or equestrian competition rules.
Under FEI, British Equestrian and racing regulations, strict liability applies, meaning the person responsible for the horse remains accountable for any prohibited substance detected in a sample.
For this reason, I generally recommend these products primarily during rehabilitation periods, such as box rest, turnout rehabilitation or longer-term recovery from tendon, ligament or musculoskeletal injury, when the horse is not actively competing.
Owners of horses competing under affiliated rules should always consult their veterinary surgeon and relevant governing body before introducing any new supplement and should discontinue use well in advance of competition if advised to do so.
